The Nissan The GT-R debuted in 2007 and 14 years later Nissan is still updating its flagship supercar to keep it relevant to more modern cars in its league. Earlier this week, Nissan unveiled the updated 2022 GT-R with two new special edition models – the Premium Edition T-Spec and the Track Edition.
- Special Edition models benefit from bespoke styling and special paint options
- Will be limited to only 100 units
- Powered by the same 3.8-liter 565 hp V6 engine
Nissan GT-R 2022: what’s new?
The two new special edition models of the Nissan GT-R were designed to meet Nismo specifications and feature bespoke body panels, upgraded brakes and two special paint options. For starters, the T-spec and Track Edition models have been updated with carbon-ceramic brakes, a carbon fiber rear spoiler, limited badges and an exclusive bonnet.
Premium Edition T-spec cars additionally benefit from an exclusive interior with pearl suede accents, an Alcantara quilted finish for the dashboard and semi-aniline leather-trimmed seats. It also gets new Rays forged alloy rims in bronze, an enlarged rim and lightweight components under the suspension springs.
The Track Edition models additionally feature a carbon fiber roof, trunk lid and are based on the standard car with technology added by Nismo, the company’s in-house tuning and performance arm.
They also get Midnight Purple and Millennium Jade paint options, paying homage to the older generation GT-Rs, where these colors were previously used. All Premium Edition T-spec and Track Edition models will go on sale in the second half of October, with production limited to just 100 units.
2022 Nissan GT-R: powertrain details
Mechanically, the 2022 GT-R remains virtually unchanged. It continues to derive its power from a 3.8-liter twin-turbo V6 engine delivering 565 hp, 633 Nm. There is also a higher-performance version that produces 591 horsepower. The engine is mated to a 6-speed DCT gearbox with paddle shifters and power is sent to all four wheels.
Nissan in India
Since this is a limited production model made only for Japan, the new GT-R will not reach our shores. In India, Nissan has done quite well with its Magnite compact SUV and has greatly contributed to relaunch the brand in our country. However, there are no new launches from Nissan in the near future.
