I’m sure you can think of a dozen things you regularly misplace, from your keys to your phone. These are common elements that you can put asure, but we have several other things you might not have thought of before.
Although you usually need to be within Bluetooth range to find your AirTag, you can use Apple’s Find My service to locate it if it’s further away but – and it’s important to remember – still within range. another Apple device (here is). To do this, simply put your AirTag in Lost Mode and you will receive a notification once it is in range of the Find My network.
We’ll show you a few uncommon places you can put an AirTag to keep you from constantly retracing your steps. For more details, hereon Android.
In your tent when you go hiking
If you’re setting up camp somewhere you’ve never been, it can be helpful to place an AirTag inside your tent so you can easily find your campsite. For example, if you decide to hike several miles one day, you can use Find My to find the last AirTag location (your tent) and get directions back to the campsite. Remember that it will need to be in range of someone else’s device, so don’t rely on that in the desert. (This is also why Apple advises against using AirTags on pets.)
In your jacket pocket
How many times have you forgotten your coat in a restaurant, a bar or at a friend’s house? Forgetting to take your jacket when you go out is easy to do, especially if the weather is warmer than expected or your hands are full of leftovers and takeout cups.
If you know you’ll be hanging your jacket on a coat rack — or the back of a chair — when you arrive, pop an AirTag in the pocket so you know where you left it. This can help prevent another favorite jacket from getting lost and take less money out of your wallet to replace it.
Inside your luggage
Airports can be tricky to navigate and can get especially tricky when trying to find the right baggage pickup. Sometimes you wait 30 minutes for your bags to finally roll off the conveyor belt – and sometimes they get lost. To relieve the stress of trying to locate your suitcase, you can put an AirTag tracker inside so you can track its whereabouts.
This can help you find out if your bags were left on the plane, if they’re on the conveyor belt but you haven’t spotted them yet, or if someone grabbed your bags by mistake. Once you find out where your luggage is, you can remedy the situation and continue to your destination.
Inside your laptop bag
Laptop bags can easily be left in a coffee shop when getting coffee for everyone in the office. When your hands are full and you’re distracted by wondering how you’re going to open your car door, it’s hard to remember to grab your bag from the cabin you were sitting in.
That’s why it’s a good idea to place an AirTag in one of the pockets. You will not only be able to locate your expensive laptop, but also save any confidential business or personal information you had in your bag.
In a hidden place on your bike
If this hasn’t happened to you, you probably know someone who has. You come home from a bike ride, go inside to get some water and something to eat and completely forget about your bike that you left outside. Or maybe you went to the store, didn’t lock your bike, and when you came back there were none.
If you place an AirTag in a hidden place on the bike, you can easily locate it. However, we do not recommend following the bike on your own. It is best to notify the police and let them retrieve your bike to avoid any dangerous situation.
This method also works on your car if it’s been stolen or towed away – or if you can’t remember where you parked it. However, if you have an iPhone and it’s connected to your car via Bluetooth, your phone can track where you last left it.
