NEWTON, Mass. (WBZ) – It was not the type of ride that golfers at Newton’s Brae Burn Country Club are used to.
At around 5 a.m. on Wednesday, police were called to Brae Burn’s sixth hole after an SUV got stuck. The man behind the wheel said he mistakenly followed his Waze GPS app on the course.
The driver said he dropped off his friends around 2 a.m. and it was pitch black. As a result, the man said he took too wide a turn and got stuck.
“I think the moral of the story is if you use any of these GPS apps just keep your eyes on the road your eyes won’t lie to you,” said Newton Police Lt. Bruce Apotheker. “I think if you saw that you were heading for some kind of road and it looked like it was going nowhere, you would stop and turn around.”
Newton police said they did not smell of alcohol or detect signs of impairment.
The vehicle was removed and golf course employees said there was no sign of damage.
