Satellite navigation is back with a clever way to help cut your gas bills

There’s a new Sat Nav on sale that does more than just show the route to a destination. The DriveCam 76, from the team at Garmin, has just been unveiled and it comes with a host of features including the ability to display live fuel costs in the local area that users are traveling through. This means drivers can see exactly which forecourts offer the best deals at the pump and refuel for less. There’s even instant guidance to the exact location, so there’s no excuse not to save money.

In addition to this instant fuel comparison, the DriveCam 76 also includes an integrated dash cam that records every moment of a drive in 1080p HD quality. Footage is shot using a wide 140 degree field of view, with all captured video automatically stored in a secure online vault.

Everything recorded by the camera can be viewed on the built-in 7-inch screen or sent directly to a smartphone for viewing away from the vehicle. Other useful extras on the DriveCam 76 include live traffic reports, weather updates, and even Trip Advisor ratings for local hotels and restaurants. Owners can even make calls thanks to full compatibility with the latest iPhone and Android devices.

This is one of Garmin’s most premium satnavs and all of these features come at a cost, with owners of this device paying back £419.99. Ouch!

Along with introducing the DriveCam 76, Garmin is also releasing a new CamperCam 795 GPS navigation device which the company says has been specifically designed for camping enthusiasts.

This gadget includes improved navigation for larger vehicles with a route optimized for the size and weight of the motorhome or trailer. There are also enhanced warnings such as steep hills ahead, sharp turns, and speed changes.

Owners also benefit from intelligent Birdseye satellite imagery for high-resolution aerial views of the campground or RV park to aid in a smooth arrival.

The CamperCam 795 GPS is also on sale now and costs £499.99.

“We’re excited about this series of all-in-one sat navs, which combine our best car and RV navigation features with a crisp, integrated dash cam, giving you confidence that you have video evidence of unexpected incidents,” said Dan Bartel, vice president of worldwide sales at Garmin.

“Whether you’re commuting to work in the morning or hiking cross-country with the family, these sat navs give you added peace of mind when you’re on the road.”
