RCMP are asking the public for help in locating a suspect after a 25-year-old Winnipeg woman was shot dead in a moving vehicle in Portage la Prairie on Wednesday morning.

Shortly before 8:00 a.m., Portage la Prairie RCMP responded to a woman who was injured after the vehicle in which she was a passenger was shot as the two vehicles were traveling on 6th Avenue in Portage la Prairie.

Mounted police said the initial investigation determined that a dark four-door small car with two men inside shot at an SUV carrying the injured woman and a female driver, injuring the passenger. The car fled. The woman was taken to the local hospital for treatment and was released.

The RCMP believe this was not a random incident and that those involved knew each other.
