Wyndham City is Victoria’s first council to partner with 40 GPs to increase the number of people receiving Covid-19 vaccines.
Wyndham City provided access to Encore as part of a pilot program that general practitioners can use to immunize their patients. Council will continue to explore options to include other sites in the municipality.
Currently, most GPs can only vaccinate 10 people per day, or 50 per week in their clinics, due to their size.
Using the Council’s largest facilities, they can vaccinate up to 100 people in two hours.
Wyndham Mayor and Healthy City Portfolio Holder Cr Adele Hegedich said only Astra Zeneca vaccine was available and residents should book, but the program would dramatically increase the rate at which our community is vaccinated.
“We know our residents trust their local GPs, so it makes sense to give them better access. “
“We want as many residents as possible to be vaccinated in Wyndham. “
“Vaccinations are our best way out of lockdowns and this pandemic. “
“The inhabitants know the inhabitants better. This is why we have joined forces with our network of general practitioners to help with this important vaccine deployment. “
“Less than a year ago, there were 942 active Covid cases in Wyndham. We don’t want to see those numbers again.
“Residents must book their vaccinations with their general practitioner. The general practitioner will then provide them with a place and time to be vaccinated. This is not a public walk-in facility – all reservations must be made through local GPs. “
The sessions will be organized according to the demand of general practitioners. Currently it is weekly, but it may increase.
